How we’ve grown; A look back to the beginning

It’s been a little over a year since NullPointer.ph was established. Since then, we’ve already accumulated around 400 questions and more than 1000 answers from a community of around 400 users. Most of these questions tend to be specific about configuration, integration problems with tools, and best practices. There have also been some general questions about careers and how best to achieve those paths.

There have been tons of insightful answers and thought provoking questions, a lot of which can be credited to the following awesome users:

Early last year, we launched the job board to help companies find talents from our community and to help our awesome users land the jobs that they’re looking for. The people who registered to post jobs numbered at 99 and 50 of those actually posted 102 jobs. While the general quality of the job posts have been good from our end, we would like to know what you guys think. Have any of you benefited from a job post on our board? Have you reconsidered your career path based on what has been posted? What job posts are you currently looking for?

Around June, we migrated from StackExchange to WebFaction using OSQA also last year because we wanted to have full control on the direction of the site. This caused login problems to some users using their Google accounts. We immediately fixed the problem for those who contacted us regarding the issue, but for other users who are still unable to login using their Google Accounts, you can now use the Forgot Password link in the login page to receive a link where you can temporarily change your password and edit your profile to add your Google Account again.

2010 has been a great year for our community as we saw it grow to the number that we expected. This year, we would like to be more involved with the local dev community, college students, and software development companies. This task will be tough for the NullPointer.ph team since we also have day jobs, but we will do our best to make it happen. We are thinking of hackathons and dev parties (we’re thinking code + pizza + beer here) but there are no concrete plans yet. This year, we will also be updating our blog more often so stay tuned!
